Portland Grand Facade

A great old Portland house on Northeast Fremont. Their garden has been featured in Sunset...which is just about the time I took this. Canon T-90, Fuji Velvia.

Time's Soft Overlay

The beauty of old craftsmanship. Canon G10. Color image desaturated and toned in Photoshop.

Floralscape

Being a gardener offers a continual source of material, and getting in close, isolating flowers from their contexts and shooting in strong light often produces intriguing images. At least it continues to fascinate me. Here, we have a simple Rhody. Canon G10. The G10 has excellent macro capabilities.

Cafe Interior

A typical Portland cafe...the perfect place to write. Or at least blow off an afternoon. Canon G10.

Eagle Creek, Oregon

Can you just shoot nice pictures, Patterson? The great outdoors or something? On occasion, when I'm in the right place. Eagle Creek, on the road to Mount Hood, is one of those places. Canon T-90, Fuji Velvia.

Pacific Virgins

A couple of friends from the East Coast, seeing the Oregon Coast for the first time. In time-honored tradition, skies turned stormy. Soft, saturated colors, courtesy of slightly underexposed Fuji slide film at the end of the day. Canon AT-1, Fuji Velvia.

Weathered Door

Grab shot on a summer walk. Canon G10. I love stuff that's battered, weathered, rich with texture. All the world's another Jackson Pollock, waiting to be uncovered.

An Intimate Dahlia

Trying to look at a familiar object in a new way. There's probably a little surrealism at work here as well. Shot with the Canon T-90 using Fujichrome Velvia.

Blue Coast

Dusk at Seaside, Oregon. Shot on Fujichrome Velvia with a Canon T-90. The glories of slide film saturation.

The Road Well Traveled

An overcast morning in Sorrento, Italy, on the Amalfi Coast. Drizzle and quiet before the day begins. Shot with a Canon G10. How old are those cobbles?

Late Summer Afternoon

A summer's day, in hot pastels. Shot with the Canon G10. When the light warms and slants, I love shooting textured surfaces and street scenes straight on a Hopperesque feel.

WATCH THAT SPACE

A new, exciting (or at least perhaps engaging), slight demented adventure begins tomorrow on Splattworks, splattsights companion blog. Don't change the channel....

Portland Dawn

Sorry I've neglected this poor blog for so long. The best-laid plans, and so on.

The above was shot with a Canon G10, an early morning struggle between and cloud and clear that turned bronze as the sun rose. Just being in the right place at the right time.

I can feel the photo bug chewing at me. A bad sign....
